It is with
sincere apologies that we have to announce the postponement of Exofest
III: The Edmonton International Horror Film Festival. We would first
like to begin by apologizing to all the people who were planning on
attending the festival. We want to assure you that the festival will
still go on, probably around the 5th of September.
There are many reasons for the festival being postponed, the first of
which, and the main one, being funds, or rather the lack thereof. We
do have funding coming in, but unfortunately, it did not arrive in time
for us to make the necessary deposit deadlines. This means that we will
have to find a new venue and allow time for new posters to be printed
and circulated.
Another reason for the delay is lack of interest, by some of the citizens
of our fine city and by the news media. This may be attributed to the
fact that there are other festivals going on at the moment, like The
Edmonton Fringe Festival. We hope that the new dates will allow more
people to attend.
Let me remind those of you who don't know much about Exofest, that there
are only three people running the operations for the entire organization.
This means that we often have to wear many hats and sometimes we let
things fall through the cracks. We are getting better at this and Exofest
IV: The Detroit International Horror Film Festival, running October
31, 2003 to November 15, 2003, is coming together amazingly well. Funds
are in place and deposits have been made, so we don't foresee any problems
as sponsors are lining up to be part of this event. Starting with Detroit,
we will also have a larger staff and that, as they say, makes all the
difference.
So let us apologize again and say that we hope that after Detroit these
problems won't happen anymore. We are also going to use Exofest V, which
takes place in Calgary in February, as a gauge on whether or not Canada
will continue to be a stop on the Exofest Festival itinerary. As Canadians
and Edmontonians, it upsets us to see the festivals getting more support
south of the border, but we will continue to do what is best for the
festival.
We hope to see you all soon and you can get new information as it becomes
available from the website at: www.exophagy.com/exofest
We would like your feed back, positive or negative!! Please email
us.
Sincerely,
The Staff of Exofest
